To Protect and Serve Marion Police Department Relocates to Updated Building Marion, IL- The new Marion Police Department officially opened following a ceremony that happened Wednesday. The new building has more office space, a better foot-traffic pattern and updated security features. The department submitted a request to acquire the Army Reserve building on 1001 W Deyoung after it became vacant. Following the approval, Baysinger Architects of Marion, IL designed the renovations of the interior of the building. Work on the $1.4 million renovation was done by Ron Gobin Construction, F & F Mechanical, Bruce Electrical and Litton Enterprises. Marion Police Chief Dawn Tondini said the new location has better communication equipment and more resources for the department. This building is bringing us into the 21st century, Tondini said. Renovations to the building introduced numerous offices, archives and a large holding room to the existing structure. The entrance lobby features a curved vaulted ceiling and window to speak to dispatch officers. Doors in the lobby lead to conference rooms and the investigations wing. The armory and processing area are housed in the south end of the building with updated lock systems and security features. Marion Mayor Robert Butler said the new location will allow the police department to serve the people of Marion better. The building is located on a main thoroughfare and is more readily available, Butler said. This building will be here for a long time and will continue to help the community. Funding for the project was provided by the police department. The Marion Police Department has a staff of about 40 people composed of detectives, administration, dispatch and patrol officers. -end-
