I grew up a 3rd generation U of M fan. I still want to root for them. However, U of M hasnt been a top level program in 10 years. 2006 was the last time they had any player win any major award. They have a 2-7 record in their bowl games over the last 10 years. They have 1 Big Ten championship in the last 10 years, and it was in 2004. They have 2 10 win season in 10 years. Over the last 10 years, theyre only averaging 7.7 wins/season. Since Lloyd Carr left, theyre averaging 6.8 wins/season (thats barely bowl-eligible). They have 1 national championship since 1950, and they shared it with a Nebraska team (who by all accounts were better than U of M). In short, its not that something happened to this program. Its that something has been happening for a long time, and weve just now stopped making excuses.
