I grew up a Christian, I was introduced to Christ at a very early age. I have a mountain of coloring pages and old sticky art projects to prove it. Every Sunday I was told stories about a man named Jesus and how he performed miracles and loved to help people- he didnt really care what others thought about the people he helped- he simply saw someone in need and he couldnt help but stretch out his hand to meet them-heal them- Love them As I got older, I got to a point in my life that I had stopped believing in these stories- I let them, their characters and their lessons remain on my coloring pages and concluded that they were just that- perhaps just stories and this man named Jesus? Maybe He didnt exist, or perhaps he did but he didnt do the miracles they all claimed He did. I decided to walk away from my faith for a time. I didnt see a point on holding on to children s stories any longer. I can tell you didnt get very far. In the midst of that dark moment-When I didnt see a point in human existence- I found a stretched out hand calling out to me. Suddenly, John 3:16 wasnt something to memorize or put on a bracelet or necklace. It was part of my life- it saved my life “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. I have wonderful Muslim, Hindu, and Atheists friends that I love and greatly respect- they help me see the world differently and keep me on my toes so to speak. So yes, I have heard tons of arguments against my faith. People have asked me why Im a Christian. Because....well Christmas This is the thought that has been on my mind tonight. Not because of presents, because lets be real- Hannukah is a way better Holiday, with a rich tradition that isnt linked to paganism. But rather, the story of Christmas, This idea that God- this deity that from but one word from His mouth formed the cosmos- that caused light to appear and caused the ocean and mountains to form. Who from His breath, breathed life, purpose and existence into humanity. This same limitless, unfathomable higher power- the Allah ar-Rahman and ar-Rahim came down and limited himself and entered into the story of humanity. Not only did he move heaven and earth and every single barrier in order to come meet humanity- He Became human. The Creator of Heaven and Earth, became a helpless child, in need of someone to care for him, feed him, clothe him Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself The question goes back to Why? Why would the Unlimited limit Himself? So that He could stretch out His Hand, and touch creation- humanity The Why is and will always be LOVE For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love The story of Christmas is that God moved time and space to stretch out His hand and touch humanity- in the form of a child It is the promise of Immanuel- That God is WITH US It is the symbol that even in the darkest of nights, there is a star that is guiding you It is that while yes God, loves humanity enough to die for it It is the even more amazing that He would come down and live like us and meet us as we are Some say God is a mountain, and that all religions have found different roads to the top of that mountain Why I came back to my faith, Why I am A Christian today and what makes Christmas so beautiful to me is that it reminds me that 2,000 years ago God came down off that mountain
