I grew up hearing that Kikuyus love money and are thieves. But may be other communities too have learnt the art of dishonesty with time. Most thugs that have been arrested or lynched in my Kiamunyi Estates, Nakuru for stealing or robbery are either Abagusii, Luos or Kikuyus. Notoriety is in that order. What I know of Kikuyus is that apart from being enterprising, the do honor their deal and contracts. Some of them learnt painfully and with time that a broken deal is a recipe for a well orchestrated reign of terror on him and his family. A broken leg here and a cracked skull there. A torso on the other side. Your head will go for as little as a loaf of bread to a hungry serial killer for higher. My friends says Abagusii are known for their notoriety on not honoring deals with somebody from another community. Breaking into peoples house and stealing everything including the night dress you are wearing. They also have the tendency to slash your head at the slightest provocation during the break-in. The Abagusiis believes other people fear their witchcraft and witch-doctors. But an Abagusii is careful not to mess up with a fellow Abagusii . An obviously old cockerel crowing in your tummy is a sure reminder that a mischief you did somewhere has not gone unnoticed. Let me know what they say about the rests of tribes in Kenya when it come to honesty.
