I grew up in a small country town in North Texas called Henrietta. 401 N Graham to be exact, and every year Id tell myself I couldnt wait to leave that town behind and move on. But as I have grown up and matured I have come to realize that so much of who I am is because of the great people there and the traditions that once seemed so lame. If I guessed Id have to say at least sixty of the seventy seven of us that graduated nearly twenty years ago started Kindergarden together. Every parent in town essentially had 300+ other kids outside their own. Teachers actually loved and thought about the children they taught. Friendships never really broke apart, just shifted because in reality we were all family. Odd that even though I have only seen a handful of my classmates since graduation outside of our ten year reunion and yet when we see each other its as if we just saw each other in the hall. Looking back it wasnt Henrietta I couldnt wait to leave behind it was me. Thank you Babe and Vonda Sly Wheeler , Debbie Mass , and the countless other parents I had growing up. Thank you to my Mom (Lesia Anderson Holt ) for raising me there. If I dont get to come down for the greatest of all weekends this weekend, hug a friend, drink a cold beer, laugh at the fact we actually survived some of our stupid mistakes, and be thankful we were raised in a town that understands that it is shaping lives and producing great people. To all my friends back home and across the country/globe... bring on the 83rd Annual Clay Country Pioneer Reunion and Rodeo and go Bearcats.
