I grew up in the wonderful time of the 60s, when kids ran off the school bus, threw their 2 books on the table, (no heavily laden back-pack back then) and ran back outside to play with all the kids in the neighborhood like it hadnt ever been done before. We did that every day together for nearly 18 years. This past weekend though, my dearest neighbor/ buddy, Paul Fluegel, died from a determined but ultimately fatal fight against cancer. He was my side kick, my good humor guy, my snow ball fighting target, my friend whom I loved to sass and laugh with. He slapped me in the face once, I cant remember why, and then hid up in a tree for hours to avoid the punishment I so hoped he would get. Paul laughed through every story he told and that infectious laughter would have me rolling in tears. Paul was a huge part of my growing up years and what helped make them so wonderful. A hole is now found in our Mattapoisett neighborhood.
