I grew up on the urban fringe of Melbournes northeastern suburbs, - TopicsExpress

I grew up on the urban fringe of Melbournes northeastern suburbs, often visiting and camping in the mountains beyond and their hundreds-years-old mountain ash forests, with family and friends. These are amongst the places I feel most connected to, and they are being logged right now. Melbourne and much of central Victoria relies on these old growth forests for our drinking water. They are home to numerous threatened and endangered species like the Leadbeaters Possum and the Bogong Moth. Trees in these forests once stood the tallest of any in the world, some still stand in excess of 80m and 300+ years old. Campaigns and actions are being fought right now focusing on the threatened species, the affects of fire, the drinking water, the economies of the surrounding communities, the logging itself, the creation of a new national park, involving scientists, researchers, local communities, indigenous folks and ongoing campaigns of direct action. There is renewed interests in linking these campaigns, groups, communities and tactics, the time to get involved is now :] greatforestnationalpark.au/park-plan.html
