I guess its time for my emo post of the month. I am not a very good singer, but my daughter enjoys it so I sing to her all the time, and she sings along with me. (We used to hum together before she could even talk.) When shes not here i try to find new songs I think she will enjoy. I recently rediscovered the song Dance With My Father by Luther Vandross. Its beautiful and even the songs history is touching - it was the last song Mr. Vandross recorded before his stroke and eventual heart attack. He never had the chance to perform it live. The message of the song hits hard and parts of it cause me to envision my daughter and I in the future. This is the one song that I have not once been able to sing all the way through without breaking down crying. And my darling little 2 year old girl actually gets it and comforts me, telling me its okay and Ill take care of you causing my tears to flow even more, like they are right now. I am so lucky to have such a wonderful daughter. It was this time last year that I didnt know where she was for months and the single hardest, most trying time of my life. Although we are still working on details, Im glad to see that Lilahs mother has come a long way in working with me to give our beloved daughter the best life we can. Thats that its all about.
