I guess the birth of a royal baby gives the rest of us peasants in the economic dungeon something to clang our chains together to celebrate. I was a monarchist up until about five years ago when I gradually came to realize two things: 1) the monarchy represents a more primitive stage in human evolution and self awareness/governance...a parental/child stage; and 2) the British taxpayer supporting an aristocratic family lifestyle. Having said this I do acknowledge that the royals do a lot of service, the Queen has shown self sacrifice in serving her people and the people of the Commonwealth and William and Kate are smart enough to realize that the British monarchy must change or go the way of the Dodo bird. Canada must become a republic and we must have a senate that is progressive, elected and with equal regional representation to keep these idiots whom we elect to the House of Commons and the utter imbeciles in our entitlement-ridden Senate from destroying everything we have developed. When is Harper going to get off his ass and put into reality his Reform ideas of a new Confederation?
