I guess too much is being made out of Smriti Iranis lack of a degree. Lalu Prasad Yadav has a Bachelor of Laws and a Master in Political Science. How did his degrees make a difference? He ensured that Bihar went from bad to worse. To make a totally different comparison, all the Ivy League MBAs, PhDs in Maths and Physics who worked on the Wall Street, created some part of the financial crises that the world is currently going through. There is not much of a link between having a degree and being educated. Also, what one needs as a minister is the ability to administer. Whether she has that or not, we will come to know in the time to come. Also, someone needs to analyse why so many politicians have a law degree. I can speak from the experience of growing up in Ranchi that law was a subject one studied if one did not get admission in any other subject or had other things to do in life. Disclosure: On a slightly different note, I feel that my MBA degree was a sheer waste of time. I would have been better off, if I had stopped studying after my BSc. So yes, I am biased to that extent.
