I had - no have (!) - loads of things to get through today but this ruddy book has just arrived on our doorstep - complimentary from Dave and Jenny Knowles at Little Knowle Press. Its not just a reprint of my friend Paul Peacocks biography of Jack. Paul has added extras from his research files, including a fascinating essay by Dave, one of my stepfathers colleagues who, unlike Stan Bréhaut his cameraman, Ive not mentioned enough on these pages. Dave was an editor of Out of Town at Southern Television. He went on to produce Channel 4s three years of Old Country - successor to OOT. Episodes occasionally shown in shaky clips from viewers on these FB pages. Daves direct knowledge of how Out of Town was prepared for broadcasting has been of incomparable value in recovering the separate sound tape and 16mm location film of old still unseen (since first broadcast) that I have stored in my lock-up in Birmingham. Theres also Jacks original memo written with Cyril Bennett and John Rhodes that led to the iconic childrens programme How...Since I get no royalties from sales of this book (unlike Jacks own writings) you can judge the value of my endorsement. Get it even if youve already read Paul Peacocks original biography (go down the timeline here to get a link to Little Knoll - Dave and Jenny Knowles!)
