I had a call from a friend this morning apologizing for being late - TopicsExpress

I had a call from a friend this morning apologizing for being late for our meeting. Not a problem, I say, take your time. When he arrives, he tells me that on the way to our meeting he was stopped in Fort Bend (Richmond) by an officer and given two tickets, one for speeding and the other for not having insurance. OK I don’t know if he was speeding, my friend claims he wasn’t, but his insurance is current. AND THEN the officer asks him if he is legally in the country. My friend is a U.S. Citizen. So then my friend answers that he is a U.S. Citizen, at which time the officer tells him that lying about his status is a felony and wants to see proof. What type of proof, my friend asks. The officer says birth certificate………seriously? People who are naturalized have birth certificates from abroad. My friend says he has his passport in his safe at home, and the officer tells him that he could arrest him for mouthing off……at which time my friend stops talking. Then the officer threatens to call Immigration. Ok, granted my friend speaks with a heavy accent but this type of behavior from an officer is wrong and illegal. It should not be happening in ANY COUNTY in Texas or the U.S. My friend is now my client, and I have a my first case post campaign.
