I had a conversation with my nephew about the youth violence and deaths in Chicago. I asked him what he needed, and what young Black men in Chicago needed. He said we need something to do. He said that its messed up when you go to school and then dont have money to live. You do everything youre supposed to do and then cant find a job. I remember a similar conversation I had with my uncle. This was right before I went away to school and they were tearing down the South and West side Chicago projects. He said if they tear down all these projects and move folk out south without giving these kids something to do, all hell gon break loose. He went on to say that without replacing the community activities, youth centers, basketball courts, swimming pools, YMCAs, neighborhood school programs, etc., the city would become like the wild Wild West out here. In leaving those things out, they will have destroyed the neighborhood and the community. He said it would be the hood everywhere. And so it is. If you feel you have nothing to lose, or do on this earth, you wont be afraid to die. You will actually go with pleasure. Can you imagine what it feels like to be in these shoes? Well, this is whats happening, and has been happening in America. There is no need to enslave if all you have to do is oppress. People will volunteer to die. We MUST attend to those who feel they have nothing to lose.
