I had a date with Dick Blick this weekend! You artists know who I mean. He delivered me a luscious set of 120 Sennelier soft pastels. Theyre glorious to work with on sanded paper as you can layer and layer and not get mud. Theyre soft and not scratchy. Last weekend I watched a zillion demos on artistnetworktvs website (love Liz Haywood Sullivans work) and yesterday I put the tips to work. Heres a pic of my inspiration photo, taken by me in upstate NY in 2005, and my pastel painting. Im in love with that late afternoon light on most days, esp when it lights up the distant mountains in hot pink and turns the bare trees bright gold... but it only lasts a few minutes.The photo doesnt quite capture it, so artistic license is shown in the painting. Enjoy. And if youre in the market for some pastels, I vote for Sennelier!
