I had a delightful day today helping out at the last day of the Book Week Book Fair at Humpybong State School. It is such a buzz seeing kids engaging in reading and vibrant discussion about the books they enjoy. I must admit I succumbed to a fair few myself and because it was too difficult to combine being the book fixer with the money taker role I was a tad sinful and read a couple of the books. If you have pre-teen/early teen kids with an interest in reading get onto a copy of Morris Gleitzmanns Loyal Creatures. It is wonderful and the librarian found me sobbing my heart out when she brought me a cup of tea!! Its a WWI story about the Australian Light Horse - it pays tribute to Michael Morporgos War Horse which Adam has agreed to lend me - I wish Id seen that stage play - and is just so real and so touching. The other good one was Christine Harriss The Haunted Museum - The Titanic Locket. Ghosts and ghoulies (not Gooleys!!!) high seas and echoes of that dreadful woman and that dreadful song ------ still dont know why he didnt chuck her off the prow of the boat and give the story a happy ending!!! (heheheheh) Now Im half way through another which was one of the sale items so I justified buying it as well to bring home and Ill pass it onto the kids when Im finished. I love it when kids read!! I truly, truly do! Thanks Humpybong for letting me be part of your world.
