I had a fantastic long weekend with my Aoraki Bound crew. We stayed out at the park for a couple of days and planted our own biota node kupe 08, visited the Kaiapoi Pa, ate and drank plenty at brew moon, the Lyttelton Irish Bar and the fantastic Wunderbar to name but a few. We also got a chance to visit Rapaki and for the out of towners we headed into ChCh central for their first look around since the earthquakes. Back at the park, we had Kaiapoi North and Woodend Schools in and I caught up with 3 Steiner students who will be volunteering at Tuhaitara next week. I completed a couple of external fund applications for rehabilitation projects (fingers crossed) and finished a couple of reports. Leigh and Grant continue with the possum project while Rex and Dan were out brush cutting and planting. Mark R was about over the weekend and the ranger presence in the park is paying off. I caught up with Jean T from ECan, fantastic supporter of what we are doing. Kate J made mention of the kingfishers and sited the white faced herons currently in the park at Woodend Beach. This weekend Im at the books again with 15,000 words down to date. A little rain over night will help the new plants after the battering of NW winds lately. Did you know It has been demonstrated that some amphibians are able to use celestial bodies for orientation.
