I had a few friends who ask me to share some of my most valuable tools for recording professional quality music. So, I took a still picture of all the most popular applications on my PC. Hope this helps some of you who are just starting to record some of your ideas, either on your desktop or laptop.I suggest you always use an Apple computer for these sort of things, but a PC will never be a problem if you have the right RAM & storage. An external hard drive, around 7200 rpm is a must, Ive found. Ill list each of the items from left to right, and what they all do. -Absynth is a Stand alone, RTAS, AAX, and VST of a synthesizer used on a lot of pop or hip hop projects. I use it on rock songs (instrumental, for t.v. & film tracks) -EzDrummer is a Rtas, aax, and Vst drum machine with a lot of tools that allow the musician to find the exact beat. EzDrummer sounds are all mixed, mastered and ready to print. If youre looking for a drum machine with un processed sounds... its a bit more expensive, but Superior drummer is the big brother of EzDrummer. Its a very good tool for musicians who create their own original music or sounds from scratch. -EZKeys is a stand-alone, RTAS, AAX, and vst Piano module used for artists searching for original Piano sounds (Royalty free). Even if youre not a keyboard player, this software allows the engineer to program the right chord structure, tempo, and progression to match any song on your list. EzMix- This is a plug-in for engineers who need to mix in a hurry. This plugin (stand alone, VST, RTAS) has its own preset template to help mix just about any instrument, on the fly. Guitar Pro- Guitar Pro is a stand alone application used for writing/converting your songs into sheet music or guitar tab. This works perfect for musicians who are interested in learning new songs or converting your own music into MIDI instruments. Guitar Rig- Guitar rig is a stand alone, RTAS, VST virtual guitar amp that sounds exactly like the real deal. This software emulates almost any guitar amp or pedal you can think of. Its perfect for on the go type recordings. I take my laptop and Guitar Rig, everywhere I go - you never know when you get an idea and decide to record a new track. Kontakt 5 - Kontakt is a stand alone, RTAS, AAX, Vst plug-in that is kinda hard to describe. Basically its a sampler or host that holds dozens of Virtual instruments like Pianos, Synths, Orchestral Instruments, a very real sounding Bass Guitar that I use often, plus other instruments like, Alicias Keys virtual Piano software. Massive - Massive is a stand alone, RTAS, AAX, Vst synth used with almost any type of electronic sound. Melodyne- Melodyne is a very poplar plugin used to tune vocals or convert audio to midi. Pro Tools - Pro Tools 10HD is probaby the most popular DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) on the market. I have to say I use this to record my music more than any other program out there. Reaktor 5 - Reaktor 5 is a very popular program that hosts thousands of different synth, techno, electronic type beats and tones, very similar to the sounds of Nine Inch Nails, and used on many movie sound tracks like, Gone Girl, and The Social Network. Studio one Professional 2- Studio One is a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) I use this software just about as much as Pro Tools. This DAW does not require as much RAM or hard drive space as Pro Tools. Most all of my VST instruments and editing tools run lightning fast in this app. I found this application about a month ago and havent top using it since. --I have so many more tools and programs, I just dont have time to share them all... but hopefully this will send you all out into the right direction. Remember, as far as audio editing tools, Waves are very good, but I would suggest Universal Audio Plugins over anything else. Theyre all powered plugins that really fatten up the sound of your song. All their compression, EQ, VERB, and Delay plug-ins create some of the better sounds you hear on T.V. AND radio today. - Sound Toys Echo Boy If youre looking for the absolute best Delay plug-in on the market. Echo Boy is the best, Ive found no better. Its not cheap but worth every penny.
