I had a great experience today...feel free to read my little story! I believe Ive found my key to premium happiness during the supposed most depressing time of the year. I hope this works for you too! I decided to get some more exercise this beautiful winter evening (believe it or not, it is warming up out there with every gust of that south breeze) so I ended up going for a longer-than-normal walk to St. Vital Park to check out where the x-country ski trails are, for future reference. Since I didnt have my skis nor snowshoes with me, and since I wanted to do more than just walk, jog, or run, I began to groove to the music emanating from the noise-cancelling headphones I brought along with me! The groove became greater as my muscles warmed, and the slight strides and shuffles that were integrated into my casual walk gradually transformed into energetic leaps, twirls, and skips, among many other crazy moves, depending on the song playing at the time! I danced jubilantly along most of the riverbank trail that skirts the park and continued dancing as I backtracked to where I started! As the sun was setting, I danced freely at the edge of the river in the light of the brilliant orange rays that faded beneath the horizon before me - it was almost as if I was sending off the day and welcoming the night. The cold was becoming less noticeable with each dance move! On my way home, I danced relentlessly through the park, across the river on the Bishop Grandin bridge, through a residential neighbourhood, and into the old Southwood golf course before doing some stretches and walking the rest of the way (I danced continuously for about 45 mins to an hour). What a vigorous workout...it felt really good! Elation (Im normally happy to begin with...fresh air and music enhance happiness) makes me want to dance. Dancing (physical activity) increases the brains dopamine levels which in turn stimulates more elation. This leads to one big POSITIVE feedback loop. I just couldnt stop until I became tired...it was so much fun! I believe that many people may have noticed my unconventional antics - cars began to slow down along Bishop Grandin Blvd. (some even honked or rolled down their windows to shout something which I didnt hear due to the headphones - I figured they were somewhat amused or perhaps slightly confused but I was too occupied with dancing to notice) and pedestrians couldnt help but to gawk - but I frankly dont care what other people think when I am expressing my inner-self and living life to the fullest. Heck, if I do this enough, dancing in public might catch on...I dont see anything wrong with it...it makes ME feel good at least. What if a group of people suddenly began dancing to work or to school? Why not? Dancing lifts the spirit, releases all stress, and is a fun way to exercise! My free-spirited nature is okay with there being a time for everything...if I feel good, I believe I should be able to let it out! Try it sometime...youll be glad you did!
