I had a great group for the Tara façade Tour and “a good time - TopicsExpress

I had a great group for the Tara façade Tour and “a good time was had by all”. Many of those tired and hungry tourists stopped off at the Tallmadge’s little sandwich shop up the street and unknowingly stumbled into the headquarters of the “Taramedics”, the hungry volunteers that crowd in there on work days after spending a few hours eating dirt in the dairy barn/museum. If I ever get asked to speak on how to get volunteers to work so hard I will say it takes, the quality of the project, the quality of the volunteer (like the fine bunch working on the façade)….and BLT’s (bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwiches) which have been used by yours truly to quell the hunger, unruffle feathers and say thank you to my great group of volunteers who have driven long hours each way to get to the sight and work so hard. The next workday is this Saturday, September 27 at 9:00 AM. I had a couple of very nice ladies volunteer their “big boys” to come and help and I would like to ask some of you to consider coming and helping us move the roofline of Tara. It is a big piece that needs lots of hands so it doesn’t break in two and it is rather heavy. Once this is moved I can then begin to set up the side porch which is a jewel in the display of the façade. All I can offer you is a free lunch (on me) and a free tour for those who have never been but will make their first visit to help. I will have to cut off the number of volunteers for this because there is not room enough for very many…so let me know by private message if you would like to volunteer. My regulars, I expect to see your smiling faces so you don’t have to send me a message. Today’s photo is one I just received and it will help in the restoration of another piece of the Tara façade. The photo of David O. Selznick in front of Tara is nice but the best part for me is the window above the front door. That window with its attached panel below it is the only one like it and yet it took us a while to find it in the movie. Now this great photo will help in sorting thru the pieces that need to be replicated or re-attached. This is just one of many projects that the volunteers will get to work on in the coming days. Very little of the time is spent on moving large objects since most of the heavy lifting was done early in the projects beginning. For all who would like to visit but can’t and those who would like to volunteer but are too far away, you are still part of the team by sharing the information and continuing to let folks know, “that it’s still there, …the Yankees didn’t burn it”. And that it’s now being restored and is open for tours. Keep buying the books and thru your purchase helping to fund a project that has not received one dime of corporate of government funds. If this is something that folks want to see done then I believe the funding will come from the committed and we will see once again that we regular folk around the world are not helpless. There are more stories coming out in Vanity Fair, USA Today and…maybe even some video with CBS News so please keep and eye open and let me know if you see another news account…I am keep a list. I am “building” a blog site for the Saving Tara Project and hope you will join me there very soon so that I can tell you more of the stories, show you more video and provide a better way for those who want to order a book, or pay for their upcoming tour of the Tara façade. God bless you all. Buddy and I will be looking for you up at the gate. Peter
