I had a great idea last night so maybe the younger rescuers dont end up in the situation I found myself in. So you know how rescuers dont have a lot of guidance and we all end up alone and re-inventing the wheel and making a LOT of mistakes? What about having an undergraduate degree in animal rescue? If you could think of a class for a rescuer-in-training to take, what would it be? Who would teach it? Who do you admire? What would the curriculum be? What order should they learn things in. What would required internships be? Looking back, I know I did things the hard way, I know I was backwards and chasing my tail a lot. What would it look like if the next generation of rescuers had their 501 and a business management class before they ever rescued their first dog? What if they had to take a class on legal issues and public relations and volunteer coordinating? And a website building class, and fundraising ethics, laws, strategies and responsibilities and how to have proper public adoptions… ok… Im passing it over to you. Build the curriculum… What classes do new rescuers need to take to make rescue a career done well…?
