I had a horrible heart stopping moment today when I arrived at the paddock to feed the horses. There are 7 in all ranging from 16.2 Clydie X to 3 minis All but two of the horses were out of site down the paddock with two Shetlands standing together up the top. I think the little mare was looking after him The little black fella was standing on three legs holding up his off hind. Straight in the paddock I found thin wire wrapped tightly around his leg. With his long thick coat I could not see the area but feeling around I could feel no wounds... so lucky there was no cuts but his leg was swelling. Thank goodness the lady who lives there was home and i had my phone on me and she bought out wire cutters. The others had come galloping up by now so to get them out of the way we threw out some hay...it worked a treat. The poor little fella knew we were trying to help him and lifter his hind leg up so I could help him and he held it up. It was tight I could not undo it by hand but was able to squeeze the cutter through between the wire and his leg. Finally he was free.... He let me massage his leg for circulation and started eating again and standing straight on it again...All is good. Such a fantastic lucky pony helping me help him. Where the wire had come from we dont know as wed been cleaning up the fences over the last few weeks....another check coming up for sure. Thank goodness he had not been like that for long he was checked in the morning and was fine. One lucky pony that it was not worse.
