I had a lady call Stans and ask if we accepted food stamps/ The answer was no maam, I am sorry we do not. She said her son, before he passed owned the insurance agency next door to Stans and every day she would have a BIG MOMMA. She said that when she saved enough money that she was going to come back to Stans for a BIG MOMMA. We chatted a bit longer and then said our goodbyes. I got off the phone and cried. I told my hubby about the conversation and said to him, if that was my momma, I sure wish that someone would step up and take care of her. I called her back and got her address and told her I wanted to bring her one at no charge. Jamie and I got her a goodie bag together of her BIG MOMMA, potato salad, maccaroni salad, slaw, baked beans, dessert and some chips. We closed the shop 20 minutes early so that we could deliver her fod to her. She lives in Naples, in a mobile home community alone with her furbaby. I looked around the kitchen as we were talking and I did not see any type of food... crackers, fruit, nothing. That is unusual, She hugged me and cried so hard. She said it felt good to know that there were people out there that still cared. That was my beginning of Stans Senior Orphans. We collect money and paper products and give to the elderly that are alone for the holidays. We provide Thanksgiving Dinner, Christmas Dinner, a decorated tree and a Christmas gift, along with a bicycle size bag of paper products. Then when Easter comes around we do the same thing again. It feels so GOOD to give. If you know a senior in the Bonita area that will be alone this holiday season, please speak with them and find out if they would like to be part of our Stans Senior Orphans. We have lost a few this past year due to death, moving back up north or being placed in a facility. Help us spread the love~ sorry its so long
