I had a lovely day, yesterday, in Zhouzhuang, one of Chinas better known water towns. It was a bit touristy, but if you hit the back alleys, wonderful. Huge number of images taken. Day before was Suzhou old town, which is transformed against when I was there before. Wonderful. Also spent a lot of time near Soochow Unis inner campus. Incredible what gets supported, when there are rich, young students about. I wanted to metamorphose into a twenty-something, slim, young woman to get those clothes! Today included a lot of sunbathing and some chain-store window shopping. I could, actually, get clothes to fit in China! Thing about Suzhou is its affluent in the extreme, but a very compact city. You can, realistically, use the chain stores. Not 5km from on in one shopping mall to the next in another shopping mall. Gap and M & S. Yay! Amazed that M & S is full-range, including restaurant and yummy food hall. My God, though, the prices!!!! Its obviously doing well, though, as theyre opening another next door. I saw shoes at £89 and said to a Chinese guy that was ridiculous for M & S. He looked less than sure that I was right!
