I had a migrant over for lunch this week. Over lunch he shared his son was born with Congenital Insensitivity to Pain with Anhidrosis or CIPA. This is a very rare inherited disorder . This disorder prevents the nervous system from feeling the sensations that are accompanied with pain, heat, and cold.He said his son had broken his bones so often he is now wheel chair bound. And his body is unable to sweat so he does not know the feeling of hot or cold. My heart goes out to this father. I cannot imagine living with this or seeing my child go through this. I was reflecting on pain after what he shared. God made it possible for us to feel pain in our body as a warning and safe precaution over danger. Yet when we experience pain, often times we get frustrated with God or have the tendency to even blame Him for it. Yet, in His loving ways, He designed us to be able to experience pain because its the most loving thing to do. Imagine the universe devoid of any pain? Then without it completely, how will we perceive suffering and be assured and understand that God is good and learn gratefulness. Without pain, we are given free rein to take advantage of the fixed laws of nature to hurt one another or ourselves without any recourse, would that not make this a senseless and meaninglessness world?
