I had a most unexpected journey this evening. A woman asked me to escort her to a place that was handing out sandwiches, and bananas, and on the way back, a group of young women invited us into a Church whose mission it is to go out every Thursday night with about 200 youth, and pray for people, hand iht sandwiches, and food, and.have a party under the Burnside Bridge. They spread out all over downtown Portland doing this for 4 hours. I sure wish we did this in my Church. I was blessed this evening with a totally unexpected opportunity to serve others. They trained us all on how to approach greet and talk to strangers and how to stay safe. I think thia is ths safest night there is. I was chosen to be a hostess at the Party Under the Bridge. There was lots.of food.....I sat people down, and served them like a waitress. I engaged them in conversation, and saw to it they were happy. I got so many hugs. I got so much love, empathy and compassion from people that are worse off that those of us staying in the shelter. I saw the love in their eyes, and they were happy, if only for a few hours. What a wonderful opportunity for being in the right place at the right time.....and to think on Monday morning, just hours before the media started seeking me out (lets be clear, I never asked for them, or invited them.....I never asked for my ordinary, and common status post from Sunday night, to go viral.), I was struck by a car turning onto the Burnside Bridge on a red light. I landed on the hood of a white car. It was all so fast, I just stood up, not a tbing qas wrong with me, so I shrugged and accepted his apology, and walked off. I forgot all about that because abojt 30 minutes later rhw media was calling me. Anyway, tonight was random spontaneity, and it was quite remarkable. ;) :)
