I had a most wonderful fulfilling experience today. My pal Larry A. Slomski and his wife Linda were coming to Presque Isle this morning to release a Ring Billed Gull that had been injured and was rehabilitated at Tamarack Wildlife Center. Larry phoned me and I met him at the 1st parking lot at Presque Isle. Linda opened the door to the carrier and the gull slowly walked out onto the bike path. At first, it acted surprised at its new surroundings, but soon it started walking around just taking in the sights and appraising the three of us. It seemed like a long time had passed but shortly the bird opened its wings and flew up into the breeze. It passed us and circled around still looking at us, as if to say thanks for the help. What a great feeling to witness this birds return to live the rest of its life free in its natural habitat. All I can say is that I have tons of newfound respect for the folks at Tamarack Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center and the people like Larry and Linda Slomski who volunteer their time and efforts to help Gods creatures in their time of need. Job well done. I will be donating to this fine organization...hope you all can too! 12/16/2014.
