I had a patient today whose family member was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. She finished her first round of chemo & he was having a hard time with it. It wasnt a wife or sister but still a close member of the family. As a survivor I dont really know the impact it has had on my family members. He broke down & cried....I gave him a hug. I asked if he discussed anything with the family member. He said he doesnt even bring it up. I can only imagine how my family reacted with it on their own. My daughter Shylo (7) would draw cancer ribbons on all of her homework or art projects. It is amazing how often we keep our pain inside to lesson the burden on another. I am guilty of crying many times while alone to prevent adding fear or pain to my children. Today I gave him hope....but this patient touched my life in a different way with a different perspective. My heart goes out to him & his family. #Ahuggoesalongway #Igetpaidinmorewaysthanone
