I had a poem rejected by a literary magazine today. This stung, but I did what editors always tell writers to do: I sent it off to two more places. It comforted me that their form rejection letter said they look at 80,000 poems a year and publish just 150 -- a .1875% acceptance rate! And whether my poem lives in print or just on my iPhone, where I originally wrote it, it still makes me happy. I greatly admire this magazine and the range of poetry they publish, so even though they are fools (FOOLS!) not to accept the remarkable work of literature I submitted to them, I commend it to fellow lovers of poetry as well: rattle/poetry/ I get their poem-a-day e-mail, and its always refreshing.
