I had a pretty good weekend. I have been combating a big dose of melancholy and sadness this summer. It helps me a lot to get out and support other people. I takes the focus off me, and opens up my mind. I went to see Amanda Anderson and her fellow nurses read from their bed pan confessions. It was great to see things from the perspective of real health care practitioners. It is great to see someone who lives local putting out good things. I also went to see Mindy Levokove show tonight at 6 BC garden. I really enjoyed it. I love the creativity and imagination in the making of the masks and the puppets, and to see wonderful neighborhood people performing. I often have a very hard time going to see people do shows and perform. I always am very happy when I do. I have an incredible fear of crowds even though I made my living in front of them for years. I did go say goodbye to the bending elm tonight. That is was so sad. I have sat under that tree for decades. So many of the things that give the neighborhood its soul are vanishing. The tree is a living organism... as is the community. To see all the clones walking around... the endless honking of horns... the cheesy music I ran away from... take over. It is painful... trees are strength. Ah, yesterday I did take a long walk with Mandi Lynn Atkinson from who lives in Portland. It is always an incredible experience to share my love for the city and share some of its hidden gems with fellow travelers. To all of you... wonderful people... thank you for doing what you do... and reminding me that the East Village is a state of mind and spirit...
