I had a question that I would like to post anonymously if possible. I was diagnosed with BPD in 2009. I have gotten help and it has made my life so much more manageable. However, the only time my BPD symptoms act up is whenever I am involved in a romantic relationship. I find it so much more difficult to regulate my emotions and decipher if my attitude is based on the reality of the situation or how I am perceiving things. My boyfriend will always call me confusing and say that I dont open up enough. I go back and forth between wanting to spend all my time with him and wanting to be left completely alone. Also, I have spent so much of my life shutting down and not sharing about my emotions that when I try to talk to him about them, I cant even put into words how I feel. How does everyone else manage their BPD while being in a relationship? What are some of the best skills to use? Would it be beneficial to try and explain this to him? Im tired of having so much internal chaos whenever people try to get close to me, but I dont know how to change it.
