I had a question this week about mildews, specifically how to identify powdery mildews and downy mildews. Generally, white mycelium and sporulation on the upper leaf surface indicates a powdery mildew; white or gray mycelium and sporulation on the lower leaf surface indicates a downy mildew. This doesnt always hold true; there are exceptions. Still, it works for many of the mildews. Its important to be able to tell the difference as the fungi that cause powdery or downy mildews are quite different; fungicides that work on one often not control the other. AW
