I had a recent discussion with a Pakistani friend who felt a movie was anti-Pakistani because it showed a interfaith relationship and should be banned. She said she believes in 2 nation theory. She is a lovely person, very friendly and educated etc but she said that Hindus and Muslims are 2 different entities/species. That every Muslim (Indian,Pakistani) is different from any Hindus. Being from Hindu background i felt a little hurt by that. Its not her fault that she has been taught this but i thought all humans are same and have same colour blood. Maybe some similarities also exist. Im sure maybe some from my side (the Indian or Hindu side) believe this but ive not heard it being mentioned anywhere. There are many Muslims in India and there are Hindus in Pakistan. Why cant Pakistan be built on the idea of language/ethnicity as you have many diverse groups, why is this 2 nation theory so important? If religion was a uniting factor why does a Hindu majority Nepal, Hindu majority India or Buddhist majority Sri Lanka exist or why does a Muslim majority Bangladesh or Muslim majority Pakistan exist? Why do Pakistani Muslims have better rights in secular countries in the West than even Muslim countries? Surely if they were the same as you theyd treat you the same. Surely all the non-Abrahmic faiths would have blended into one country and the Muslim ones would have become one country. How many of you, whether from subcontinent or not, believe in 2 nation theory? What are your reasons? Ive no intention to put down your views but just to understand. How do I explain to my friend- i am a human and the same species as her. Actually we also have cultural similarities like language, food etc. If you guys can give me some other good reasons i will appreciate it. So far i dont think ive been successful :( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Two-nation_theory The two-nation theory (Urdu: دو-قومی نظریہ — Dō-qaumī naẓariyah, Devanagari: दो-क़ौमी नज़रिया, Bengali: দ্বিজাতি তত্ত্ব — Deejāti totto) is the ideology that the primary identity and unifying denominator of Muslims in the South Asian subcontinent is their religion, rather than their language or ethnicity, and therefore Indian Hindus and Muslims are two distinct nations, regardless of ethnic or other commonalities.[1][2] The two-nation theory was a founding principle of the Pakistan Movement (i.e. the ideology of Pakistan as a Muslim nation-state in South Asia), and the partition of India in 1947.[3]
