I had a request from a friend, Cristel Ann Trumara. Cristel has asked me to write a poem about graduation. Being a Graduate! Please do note; my poem does contain some dark humour! Thank You. Enjoy the poem. THE GRADUATE You graduate from college with a head full of knowledge, But when you want a job, you don’t have any courage! Yes, you’ve studied for a few a few years, But you can’t find a job – it all ends up in tears! You graduate from Uni, ready to take on the world. You feel so darn confident, as your story must be told! With a headful of knowledge, you attend every job interview, But instead of impressing the boss, they say; “just join the queue!” You really have high hopes, of impressing the new found boss, But they take one look at you – and they don’t give a toss! You may be well equipped – with several languages in tow, But all you seem to know is; “how long is there to go?” Yes, you have graduated, from your loyal studies, Now you’re facing all your worries. How to put your brains to work, Or do you prefer to mainly shirk? You have a trusted friend to hand – a welcome sight, indeed! It is your mobile phone you have, texting at break-neck speed! Yes, you are there, you graduate, then you head off home, Now armed with your mobile phone, you graduate as a clone! You have yourself a job interview – and arrange to look real smart, But all you do is create a stink – by letting off a fart! You feel so embarrassed, as you lose the will to live, Will the new employer be kind, and ready to forgive? To your surprise, the interview goes well, now you need a drink, Clutching a double brandy so, you don’t have time to think! But you have now graduated, so I say well done to you, But there are so many graduates chasing jobs, you have now joined a queue! You did not expect this, you thought it would be easy, But being a graduate, you thought it easy-peasy! Welcome to the real world – my knowledgeable graduate friend? And the first thing you have to do – is start a brand new trend! Good luck is what you’ll need – and a flair for chat is helpful, When you next face a potential boss, you’ll be confident, that’s essential! BY DARRYL ASHTON
