I had a very interesting conversation with a boss of an online retail company yesterday. He answered a lot of my questions including possible partnership to manufacture goods in China through his personal and well established network. During the conversation, we spoke about Sim Lim Square and the change it has seen. From the time where gangster ah bengs were peddling illegal vcds to now where retailers jack up prices so high, they only need to clock two sales per month to cover their rental. The bigger problem now is that Sim Lim is full of cheats, out to fleece customers of their money whereas Ah Bengs though broke the law through their sale of pirated goods were giving better deals to customers. Ah Bengs were also friendlier and more likeable.
