I had almost finished the manuscript for The Eye of Disparager and was getting really excited about what the final product would look like. A friend of mine told me about 99designs.au as he had run a design contest for the labels on a new range of products he was launching. I went to the site and had a look and immediately I knew that this was where I would have my cover designed. It is such a great concept, with multiple artists working on your brief, and you get to guide the process for the length of the contest. It gets quite intense because you know you have to choose a winner and all the finalists were so good. I had a total of 23 designers submit 273 designs in all, which is a great bargain considering the investment was a capital sum of $299. I was thrilled to bits, and when it came to the final, I actually chose 2 winners, paying a bit extra for the deal. This way I knew I could be left with some choices and counted on their being various versions of the novel. The folks at 99designs.au were wonderful throughout the process and answered all my queries promptly and efficiently. The site is very easy to use and the whole operation works like clockwork, with email notifications sent continuously. I loved it so much that I am about to launch a new competition for the cover of my second novel in the series – The Lion of Arillon. The great thing is that you can get fans involved and they can help you decide on a winner. I reckon this time I am going to get everyone involved by posting the contests progress on the page.
