I had an 504 meeting from hell today oh, shes doing fine, everything is great, she doesnt need any therapy or supports....followed by an EPIC meltdown and sobbing in the car. Since they lacked any documentation of SOLs, and couldnt even read her report card? They gave her a worksheet to do (with extremely confusing instructions - ALL of her worksheets are from weirdo-land), and asked for her teachers input. The teacher is stressed by K (duh, who wouldnt be?) and since shes the one who teaches the advanced group? Guess who got ditched to the regular group. This is the kid who was doing Cartesian graphing 2 years ago!!!!! I made 3 calls, had an epic meltdown myself (Bob wisely took us to Dennys - hes smart enough to figure out that upset Rachel + a hot stove = disaster) and then finally called the company that they used to homeschool with. K will still attend school in bricks and mortar (and do whatever lame math homework they send her home with) but shell be doing advanced 5th grade math online at home after school. Because I just know that this is a) not a battle I can win, and b) I dont think I want someone that frustrated and overwhelmed teaching math to K in such a bizarre fashion. Sometimes giving up and doing it yourself is an option. Sucks, but its an option. I hope you guys had a better evening than I did.
