I had announced that the end of the Best of the Burg voting was going to be this Monday, the 16th, but I’ve decided to extend that, and here’s why. When I put this week’s print edition together, there was a final push for ballots which included all the categories once again along with the deadline. However, combined with the fact that I was so moved by the VFW’s ceremony honoring 9/11 and the subsequent editorial that I wrote on it, plus all the news that had to be covered, that article with the final push and categories ended up “on the cutting room floor.” Somehow our silly little contest didn’t seem so important as to bring you the best coverage we could of all that was going on. So….. the new deadline for voting will be September 26 at 5:00 PM. That will give those who want to snail mail us a ballot time to do that. It will allow me to list the categories one last time in the print editions, and it will give you a chance to cast your vote if you haven’t. Uncle Soupy said that we’d be lucky to get five responses, and actually, we’re getting close to 50. The extra few days should get us over that mark. If you haven’t voted yet and want to but don’t have a ballot, send me an email at thenewzephyr@gmail and I’ll send one off to you tonight. You don’t have to vote in every single category, but only the ones you know about. Out of the ballots received so far, there are several that don’t have ANY votes which is fine; that means we won’t have that category in future Best of the Burgs. There are some very tight races, mostly among restaurants, and particularly among pizza places. Winners will be announced some time after September 26 and certificates suitable for framing will be given to winners.
