I had asked earlier for folks to guess what I was most scared of in the deep jungle. The answer is the bullet ant. The family and I were within inches of them in Corcovado. As I said before, I stepped into a swarming nest of a thousand leafcutter ants at night while trying to take pictures of brown racer snake coiled around a plant, and after the first frantic minute of slapping their biting carcasses off my body, it was more annoying than excruciating. The bullet ant is different. The pain is similar to a rusty nail being ground into a bad tooth with a cavity reaching down to your nerve. For 12-24 hours.
