I had been looking at a number of rescue sites online for quite some time. In October of 2013, one horse just struck me... who knows why. He was trying SO hard in the video, but his feet clearly hurt, as he trotted and cantered up and down the gravel road. He looked like he was wearing clown shoes. Someone posted that they had found him listed for sale from a fancy Hunter-Jumper barn. NOW he had my attention! How did he get here? So I bought him, sight unseen. He spent the required month in quarantine, and then made the long trip from Pennsylvania to VT. It has been a journey to get him from that horse, to where he is today. We discovered that he has had no less than 6 home in the last 3 years, staying nowhere for more than 6 months. We discovered that he had some kind of accident at an early age that injured the coronary band on his right front, so it grows in cracked. We got in touch with a lot of people, who were nice enough to fill in vet history, release x rays and vet records. Since arrival, we have been doing a lot of ground work, trust building. My farrier discovered that he had grown a false sole over the sole of his right front hoof. There were more than 6-7 old abscesses under that sole. We are still growing hoof out , but more importantly we discovered that this was the root of his stifle and hip weakness and the long history of being sore on his left side. we had been close to getting on him prior to uncovering the false sole, however the re-balancing felt off-balance to him, so we are now working at building hind end muscle and stronger stifle with a lot of long walks and groundwork. He gets Magna therapy once a month as well, which helps with soreness. I have almost everyone in the barn handling him so he can learn to trust people again, and not be quite as head-shy and reactive. Most recently, I took him to a local horse show and showed him in showmanship and model horse classes. He was VERY worried about getting on the trailer, but did it, and even more worried about whether or not he was coming home. When we got to the end of the driveway, he started screaming for his friends, and nickered all the way to the barn! I am very proud of him!
