I had been undecided whether or not I was going to share the Loso - TopicsExpress

I had been undecided whether or not I was going to share the Loso update from our Saturday adventure. As of right now there are 433 comments on the previous Loso post and I have read every one. The majority of them are encouraging brilliant words, then there are some negative comments. Negative comments that I feel are fueled by your passion for dogs and the life they “should” live. I also feel as if the owner should stay protected. As much as we disagree with her decision to chain her dog outside all year long, we still need to be respectful. From my observation, the owner is incapable of taking care of herself. Because of this, Loso suffers. Sharing your positive productive comments are accepted however I cannot tolerate the negativity. Someone said it best on the thread; “There are 27,000 plus followers on this page, we should all donate $1.00. Do the math.” The owner, was pissed when she opened the door. She threatened to call the police and refused his new house and bags of food. She argued with me the condition of his home, she felt that his wooden dog house was perfectly suitable and did not want to accept our igloo. I chose my battle and moved on. I kept speaking to her in a calm voice about what we had discussed the week before. I am pretty sure she had no recollection of that conversation nor did she remember that I was even there. Finally, she agreed to let us lay more straw and clean his area. She kept refusing the food offer though, stating that she didn’t want to clean up “runs.” We tried to explain that mixing his food would be ok but she wanted to hear nothing we said. We worked quickly. Jen B kept Loso occupied while Jen K and I shoveled frozen feces along with piles of runs. I am guessing my late night stew feedings are not agreeing with his belly. Alison took our orders and kept bringing the needed supplies. We tarped his house and laid his frozen soaked pee blanket on top to hold it down, then we laid a few fresh blankets on top of that. Jen and Jen stuffed his house with 3 bales of straw, just enough room for him to burry in. We fed him and gave him fresh water. Regardless of her refusal, we left the extra dog food. We brought a garbage can with a lid for safe storage, this way it will be protected from the elements. We returned a short time later to drop cat food that we forgot to leave at our first visit. Jen B was greeted by the wife. She seemed more thankful. She said it was very nice of us to give her cat food and extra dog food. She looked inside his dog house, gave us a nod and proceeded in the house, after she grabbed the canned cat food. Realistically, I cannot keep feeding him multiple times a week. I maybe can get there once a week. However, once the weather turns terribly cold, my feedings will not be enough to keep him fattened up. AC had been called by an unknown source. This is why she now provides food and water. AC does not need to see you feeding your dog, the only need to see that the supplies to do so are there, which now, there are 4 bags of dog food, a few bowls and a stuffed dog house. This is enough to keep AC satisfied. She does not want to relinquish the dog. The difference is, the old man is sick and no longer able to care for him, this is leaving the responsibility on the wife and she is not fulfilling this duty. He was not this thin last year. As stated before, I read nearly every comment that is posted on this page. It may take me a day or 2 to reply to your inbox messages or posts to the wall but I read everything. The majority of you have been incredibly supportive and understanding of this situation. I appreciate those who have contacted me regarding donations for Loso and others like him. However, I feel as if there are some that regardless of my/our efforts, it’s not good enough for you. We can sit and question why the owner won’t let us do this or why we can’t just steal him or why won’t she just feed him. Nonetheless, we should be grateful for what has been done. I cannot at this time ethically steal him. AC has been contacted, if she does not wish to relquinsh the dog, there is nothing more they can do. I have pondered the thought of offering cash for him. However, IPR is a foster based rescue, with no facility. We have nearly 80 dogs and no open foster homes. Furthermore, he has been chained with no socialization for 4 years. He would fail miserably in a home. He would need a slow transition into a healthy living environment. He would require consistency and guidance. No doubt, and proven yesterday, that he would make an amazing companion given the right chance. The truth of it is, there are thousands of dogs chained across our state, hundreds on the East side. In a post weeks ago, I stated that Danielle and I saw 22 dogs between 6 houses! Our supplies were gone in 6 houses. We have given Loso everything the owner will allow. His conditions have improved greatly and my hope is that she continues to feed him. Thank you Karen, Cheryl, Roseann, Theresa, The Jen’s, Danielle and Alison (hope I didn’t forget anyone)! You are the best rescue friends a dog can ask for! For those interested in fostering, IPR provides 100% of your expenses or for those eager to donate, please visit rescueapittie.org
