I had correspondence with Kevin Ruane, MBE, who is a Watch Manager with the Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service. In the course of his duties, he does a lot of international work and in March 2013 he was in the small town of Adnet in Austria. During a reception he met the Burgermeister who informed him that a Lancaster had been shot down and crash landed on 25 April 1945. As you can guess, it was a 619 aircraft - probably the last Lancaster to be shot down. Herr Wolfgang Auer is keen to erect a memorial as a mark of respect to the crew members who tragically were killed: F/O De Marco RCAF, KIA Pilot Sgt Cole CAF, F/E W/O Johnston RCAF, KIA Navigator F/S Sharyan RAF, Bomb Aimer F/S Speers RCAF W/OP Sgt Walker RCAF KIA Mid Upper Gunner Sgt Norman RAF KIA Rear Gunner A suitable date was discussed for the unveiling and it was thought that April 2015 would be appropriate as this would be 70 years since the aircraft crashed. We are all invited, so keep healthy! I will keep members informed of the progress. AN EXCERPT FROM THE 619 NEWSLETTER, BY JOE DUTTON SECRETARY/TREASURER, concerning Kev Ruane
