I had dinner with a Christian leader in our city this week and, in passing, he made the following remark and I had to keep myself from flipping the table! The problem with personality profiles is they give you permission to be a jerk. You can simply say, God made me this way. The problem with spiritual gift inventories is they give you permission to tell people what you are NOT going to do. You can simply say, I would rather serve in an area where I am gifted. Neither of these attitudes lend themselves to being effective missionaries and church planters.
