I had dinner with a lovely Indian couple who have been happily married for 25 years. They had an arranged marriage --where she saw only a photo of him. His mother and sister met her and he agreed to marry her sight unseen. He saw his future wife for the first time on their wedding day. Baffling to Americans, but it works. So can parents pick for kids? I dunno. I remember when I sent my mom out to buy me a Paul doll, and they were sold out, so she bought me a Ringo. I appreciated the effort, but I would not have been happy if I had to marry Ringo.
