I had one of the best moments of my teaching career today. As part of our poetry unit, the kids were working on writing their own poems today. One of my little guys who really struggles with communication and social skills and who has a really hard time expressing emotion came up and handed me a poem he had written and said, You inspired me to write this poem. He headed back to his desk, and then he turned around and said, Actually, pretty much everything you say inspires me. I got all choked up! Im not trying to be braggy...I just had to share this little moment that truly captures the intangible rewards of teaching!
