I had such an enjoyable drive going up the North Island of New Zealand from just north of Wellington all the way to Auckland. A brilliant day--sunshine everywhere. Great views everywhere---something you see constantly in this country. Particularly scenic and spectacular was going through the "Desert Road" portion of the main north-south highway (Route 1), which is about a 25-mile stretch with desolate countryside between the towns of Waiouru and Turangi (often closed in the winter due to icy conditions) and the great views of the snow-covered volcanos Ngaurahoe and Tongariro (with the volcano Ruapehu further on). Then, the great lake south of the town of Taupo---known as one of the great trout-fishing lakes of the world. Just so scenic everywhere! Now, back to working some on those Weber and Tchaikovsky works for that orchestra concert in Cairns, Queensland in late August!
