I had the great pleasure of seeing in the theater, ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’. Scorsese has once again put together a tour de force cast with Leo, Jonah and Margot. This film is based on the memoir by Jordan Belfort who is a motivational speaker, formerly a stock broker who was convicted of stock manipulation, fraud and money laundering in the 90’s. Scorsese’s vision is of complete and utter debauchery after Belfort’s beginning, through his founding Stratton-Oakmont brokerage, his relationships with women and his inevitable demise as a business person on Wall Street. This rollercoaster of a film experience is once of our infamous director’s best. The camera work and use of music and color is amazing, performances are outstanding and the story, based on actual events, is gripping, funny, sickening, emotional, passionate, sad and in my opinion romantic….no…not in a loving way, but in the way where the craft of film making has again been realized by a living legend. This group of talented people have come together in such a collaborative manner to tell this story, it makes me miss being in this field the way I once was. I am so glad I saw it in the theater, so glad I got to share it with my Father and I look forward to more films from Martin Scorsese’s team. 5 fingers out of 5 for this classis of 2013!
