I had the honor of being a part of 2 day old Gedes life story. His parents are very young and his mother had him in a hotel room without warning. At 1 day old, he was brought to Ketuts home to be cared for while the couple left for another island to decide what to do. It was an emotional day for us all as it stirred feelings of abandonment, vulnerability, grief and guilt. All that I could offer to Gede was my love, his first selfie and American lullabies. He offered me a workshop on proper breathing, being connected and detachment. As garbage burned outside, Ketuts sister became concerned about his lungs and brought him to the ocean for clearing. I had to leave my conditioned good mothering rules at the door and just be a part of something profound. Gede and I, we certainly have both relied on the kindness of strangers.
