I had the privilege of growing up with the Jessee side of the family close by (my mom). My grandparents loved God first, each other and family next. My grandparents and my aunts were my babysitters and my cousins were my playmates. Sometimes you dont know what you are missing until you are separated. I miss my family, especially my aunts, uncles and my cousins. Today I lost my aunt Joy. She was a Godly woman. She was a generous woman and she would do anything for us. We used to eat at my grandparents every Sunday after church (we all went to the same church) and Joy would always make coleslaw. There is none like it. She taught Julie how to make the best hamburger which is known as a Julie burger. I am going to insist we change it to Joy burgers. She also taught Julie the secret of her chocolate chip cookies. As I got older and we started going to the mountains of NC for vacations, my aunt Joy and uncle Jay would come and stay for a little bit. You could always count on good food, their extreme generosity and lots of laughs. Once we moved to Charlotte they would come visit here. In April of last year I went to see my aunt Joy because she was hospitalized and it didnt look good. Julie and I took mom down. Our first stop in town was the hospital and we had that moment when Joy opened her eyes and looked at us. She knew who we were and she was so glad we came. We saw recognition and love in her face. It was the best moment of the trip. She has fought Parkinsons for awhile now. My uncle Jay has Alzheimers and is in bad condition too. This has been a tough battle for the last several years. And my cousin Jeannie has taken care of them and treated her parents with amazing love, respect and gentleness. She is her mom through and through. She has had amazing support from her husband Johnnie in all of this too. This has been hard for Jeannie & Linda (my cousins) and their families but we all have the assurity of being with Joy again. She is no longer in pain and she is with the One who created her and loves her the most. How awesome is it to be able to look into the face of Jesus and hear Him say .. Well done my good and faithful servant. I KNOW that Joy experienced that this morning. Please pray for the family. My mom and her sisters are tight.. this is hard on all of them. Pray for Jeannie and Linda as they bury their mom on Monday in Miami. Be kind and patient with your parents - love your family and most of all - please be certain that you will one day be face to face with Jesus. There is no hope without Him.
