I had this from 2005-2012, I dont have it any more. Im one of the lucky 8% who recover fully. There is always hope. Non sufferers,please dont diminish the extent of this disease, its not yuppie flu, its not a blank cheque for malingerers, its not a trivial illness. When you suffer from ME it becomes your life and presages your death. It is a wicked multi-system disease. It spares no social stratum, it takes no prisoners, it informs all aspects of life. As health care professionals(of whom Im one again) we need to understand, inform ourselves, to listen.....but more importantly.....to hear those who suffer interminably, seemingly without end. I dont know what triggered my recovery, conventional medical care spat me out the other end after full investigation revealed sweet F A, save for traces of EBV( Epstein Barr Virus) in my blood. One of my rescuers was a Clinical Psychologist who stuck with me for four years, dealing with my many and varied issues ranging from Severe Generalised Anxiety Disorder, PTSD, elements of OCD, Agoraphobia, Health Anxiety Disorder and Severe Depression.The Psychiatrists I saw, eventually spat me out as well, with nothing more to offer than Electro Convulsive Therapy, which, needless to say, I declined, after having been tried on 13 different antidepressants, antipsychotics, benzodiazepines(Clonazepam) and Zopiclone, a sleeping tablet, all of which I had to come off with varying degrees of difficulty. I found myself emotionally anaesthetised, unable to feel. Why am I disclosing all this?........to show my fellow sufferers that, no matter how dim your candle is burning, with expert input, time, and a modicum of luck, that there is a way out of this maze that is ME. Take heart..........dont give up!
