...I had to dig for these photos. This is the abandoned Crook Point bascule bridge over the Seekonk River connecting East Providence and Providence RI. Known as the Stuck Up Bridge, it was abandoned in 1976 and has been in the upright position since then. Oddly it has never really been targeted for dismantling since it is considered a landmark by the locals and still there. This line passed through the also abandoned East Side Tunnel that ran under College Hill and on to the old Union Station in Kennedy Plaza. The bridge downtown was removed in the early 1980s during the massive urban renewal project and the tunnel abandoned about the same time. I remember seeing the city railroad span being removed as I was attending school in Providence at that time. The tunnel is sealed off and the tracks on the East Providence side have been torn up as well.......
